THREE NW JUNIORS ATHLETES SELECTED FOR PSR HIGH PERFORMANCE  Three NW Juniors players have been invited to the Puget Sound Region High Performance Camp to be conducted this summer at Fife High School.  Allison Wood (15 Ice) was selected to attend the Select Age Group Camp (born 1992 or later); Kaitlyn Dowd & Marissa Wellington (both from 16 Heat)  were selected to attend the Youth Age Group Camp (born 1990 or 1991).  The Select age Camp will be July 10-12 and the Youth age Camp will be July 17-19.  From the group of 26 athletes in the Youth Camp, a team will be selected to represent our region at The Global Challenge, a tournament held from July 24th to the 27th in Utah consisting of other region High Performance teams as well as same-aged teams from other countries.

6/5/07: Northwest Juniors VBC had a good first week of June.  With 13 of 22 teams in action, three teams won championships; congratulations to these champions:

  • 15 Ice won all their matches at the June 2nd Kitsap Juniors U15 Tournament, on their way to taking the championship. The tournament win capped a very successful month of play for the team, as it followed back to back 3rd place finishes in their previous two events.

  • 14 Eclipse also went undefeated, winning the Gold Division and only dropped one game all day at the Adidas Junior Series, hosted by NW Juniors at Edmonds Community College.  Their only game loss was in the final to Bam Harbor VBC (Gig Harbor, WA).

  • 14 Blizzard won the Silver Division of the Adidas Junior Series at Edmonds Community College.  They went 3-3 in pool, losing a close battle with 14 Cyclone, then went on to go 2-0 in playoffs, beating Mill Creek 14-2 in the Silver Final.

  • In the sand... the 18 Eclipse team of Theresia Dever, Angela Spieker, Jessica Oulette, and Alex Storino won the U18 Division of the Junior Fours tournament at Alki Beach June 3rd.

5/21/07: USA Outstanding Parent.  Congratulations to 15 Ice parent focal, Karri Thorkildsen for being selected as USA Volleyball's 2007 Outstanding Parent!  Click here for the full article.  Thanks to all you parents who do so much for your team!

4/13/07: Junior Beach Schedule announced. Northwest Juniors VBC will be hosting several outdoor sand and grass events just for junior volleyball players (boys and girls).  Schedule and entry information for our extensive schedule is located on the Northwest Volleyball Outdoor Page.  In addition, club director Tony Miranda has been selected as the host and contact person for USA Volleyball's Junior Beach Qualifying event at Alki Beach on June 2nd.  [More Info. on the event].  The June 2 event will serve as a qualifying event for the Junior Beach National Championships to be held in California at the end of the summer.  Links: USAV Jr Beach Home Page | Outdoor Schedule (PDF)

3/19/07: 18 Eclipse wins Yakima 18 Division 2 Championship: Northwest Juniors sent 11 teams to the 29th Annual Yakima Junior Jamboree this past weekend, and several teams were having good results.  The results from all teams are still coming in but at this time we can report that the 18 Eclipse team won the 18 Power Division II playoffs in convincing fashion.  18 Eclipse had a tough first round of pool play, finishing 3rd, and was still in the hunt for the championship bracket going into the last match of the pool.  They rebounded in the second round of pool, not dropping a game in beating Snohomish Juniors, Space Needle 17's and Couer d'Alene Jrs. and winning their pool.  For playoffs, they really played well and were very solid defensively.  The defeated Saturday's Warriors 17's and Team Ellensburg to reach the final; then defeated Columbia Juniors Red in the final (in 2) to emerge as DII Champions.

3/12/07: Two Champions and one Gold Division Third:  It was a good weekend for Northwest Juniors teams at the 2007 Spring Classic Tournament.  The club had two champions: 16 Heat, playing up for the weekend, won the U18 Silver Division; and 15 Thunder won the U16 Silver Division -- according to 15 Thunder Head Coach Melissa Mulick, "Our defense was scrappier than I've ever seen it, and we minimized our unforced errors, which was huge for us", great progress for our 15's.  Another great finish was the 14 Storm team, which continues it's steady improvement, and finished tied for third in the U14 Gold Division - losing a very close match in three sets to UPVBC 14 Loren (#6 in the region).  Their path to that finish included a dominant victory over the Club Tacoma Pink Panthers (#8 in the region) in the 1-2 match to end pool play.  Also of note: 14 Eclipse and 13 Twister played into the division 1 bracket and advanced to the 14 Silver Division.  They ended up playing each other in the first round of playoffs with the much bigger 14 Eclipse team winning in two sets.

3/9/07: Three teams qualify for Prime Time Playoffs:  The Puget Sound Region has set it's field for the 2007 Prime Time Playoffs (this tournament is only open to the top 8 teams in each age group, and is the region's qualifying tournament for the National Championship Tournament, champions in this event earn a bid to the YJOV National Championship Tournament in Minneapolis, Minnesota).  Three Northwest Juniors teams have qualified for this event, based on their play and seeding in the Region's Seeding League.  17 Thunder qualified as the 4th overall seed, in the 17's; 14 Storm qualified as the 8th overall seed in the 14's; and 13 Twister qualified as the 6th overall seed in the 13's.  18 Eclipse and 16 Heat remain on the bubble -- if teams above them Prime Time Qualify at Spokane, they could very well be added to the field.

December, 2006: Congratulations to the NW Juniors Players (2006 and 2007) Named to their respective all league teams.
