[Staff]

Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club is excited to announce its tryouts for the 2008 USAV Junior Season.  We are also excited to announce that this year tryouts for all teams will occur in the same location and at the same time.  In 2007, Northwest Juniors had 15 teams on the Eastside and 7 in Edmonds.  We are very excited for 2008, where we are planning on having 15 Eastside teams, 9 Edmonds teams, and 4 teams in Kent.  Click here for our list of proposed 2008 teams!  We had a great year in 2007 and expect to have another great group of athletes, coaches, and parents in 2008.  Our club is an ideal mix of Elite teams and Developing teams, with our National teams meeting with varying degrees success and some of our Regional teams were at or near the top of the region rankings in 2007!  We provide a great great opportunity for players of all levels to develop and we are proud of our accomplishments over the years.  Come and be a part of the excitement at Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club!

Tryouts are for all teams in a given age group.

Please Note: Selection for all teams -- Eastside, Edmonds -- will occur at the same tryout.  Kent teams will all tryout at the same time, regardless of age.

All athletes that attend our tryout will be given a numbered NW Juniors VBC tee-shirt, which they will wear at tryouts (and keep)

2007-2008 Age Group Definitions: For your reference so that you know what age group your athlete can tryout for.  Athletes can play up in age group, but not down.

Tryout Registration Form: We highly encourage pre-registration for tryouts.  There will be three options for tryout registration.  Pre-registration greatly speeds up the check-in process at tryouts.  (WE DID NOT HAVE ONLINE REGISTRATION AVAILABLE IN TIME FOR TRYOUTS)

  1. Mail-in Registration: Pre-registration by filling out a form and mailing in registration with a check for the $15 non-refundable try-out fee for all participants.  It is a one-time tryout fee and covers an athlete for any and all Northwest Juniors tryouts they attend.  If you are pre-registering, please include this with your registration form and SIGNED medical and liability release form.  Players will not be able to try-out without the signed release form.

  2. Walk-up registration: Bring all registration materials with you to the tryouts.  Cost for walk-up registration is $20 (cash or check only).  PLEASE ARRIVE 45 MINUTES BEFORE TRYOUTS FOR WALK-UP REGISTRATION.  WE TYPICALLY GET A LOT OF WALK-UPS.

Regardless of registration method, no athlete will be allowed to tryout without the signed Waiver and Release form.

WHY NORTHWEST JUNIORS VOLLEYBALL CLUB?

(Our longevity speaks for itself)

Northwest JR's Volleyball Club is the oldest established Volleyball Club in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho) and one of the few with full-time club staff. Established in 1972, NW Juniors offers programs for ELITE and beginning players. Managed by Northwest Volleyball, Northwest Juniors is a leader in the Volleyball community -- featuring management by the Puget Sound Region Junior Program Director, Tony Miranda.  One of our missions is to create and provide volleyball playing opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels.  Additionally, we attempt to provide opportunities in geographic areas that are in need of those programs.  We have been an Eastside club for almost 10 years, in 2005 we added teams in Edmonds, and for the 2008 season we will add affiliate teams in Kent in association with one of our club coaches at Kent-Meridian High School.   2007 saw growth for our club as we provided playing opportunities for over 250 Jr. volleyball players ranging in age from 10 to 18 years old. Tryouts are typically in November: for Under 14's it is typically the first weekend in November and for U15 and older teams it is after the State High School Volleyball Tournament.  Training camps and club meetings usually begin in December.   Teams compete in tournaments from January through June.  Our teams are separated into two categories: National Teams & Regional Teams.  National Teams are our most talented teams at each age group and they travel extensively throughout the season -- ending their season with either the YJOV National Championship Tournament or similar championship level tournament.  The balance of our teams are Regional teams -- they range in skill level from beginner to advanced, compete primarily within the Puget Sound Region and are the largest part of our club. For the 2007-2008 season, our club will be composed of 8 National teams (5 on the Eastside and 3 in Edmonds), and 21 Regional Teams (11 on the Eastside, 6 in Edmonds, and 4 in Kent).

The combination of our programs, coaching staff, administration,  systems taught, and club affiliations/sponsorships make NORTHWEST JUNIORS the premier club in the Northwest for players of all ability levels.

Team Specifics

NATIONAL TEAMS -- EASTSIDE & EDMONDS

The most talented athletes at each age group will be a part of our National Team program.  In our National Team Program, we will have two U18, one U17, two U16, one U15, and two U14 teams. For more details, please check our Team List.  Players will  compete against the top teams in the region and nationally -- our U18's and 17's will also travel to the Las Vegas Tournament - a great tournament if your athlete wants to play college volleyball.  The National teams will also have occasional extra practices during crucial parts of the season (early-season and late season in preparation for the National Championships) and early-season position-specific training.  Players understand that travel to national tournaments is  included in their commitment and will require additional travel costs.  As players in our NATIONAL TEAM program, players understand that they are committing to playing in several major national contests and continuing on through the end of JUNE at either the JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT (Dallas, Texas), or VOLLEYBALL FESTIVAL (Reno, Nevada).  Most players at this level have college playing aspirations, and/or play Varsity-level high school volleyball (U16-U18).  Cost is higher than regional teams, though competitive with other elite clubs in the Northwest.  There are other responsibilities and policies specific to the National Team Program, these are outlined in the Player/Parent Handbook distributed prior to the Club-wide pre-season meeting.  Fees for our NATIONAL team program include play in 12 tournament days PLUS, Yakima or Spokane, an out of State Qualifier, Emerald City Classic, and a post-season tournament (either Nationals or Volleyball Festival).  Cost for our National teams is approximately $1600 in dues, plus travel expenses.

In 2007, our National teams had varying amounts of success.  Our 17 Thunder team, coached by Club Director Tony Miranda, finished near the top of the U18 Rankings (Silver Division) and qualified for the Prime Time Qualifier.  Our 14 Storm team, after a slow start finished near the top of the 14's rankings and qualified for the Prime Time Qualifier as well.  Our 18 Eclipse team in Edmonds was in the Bronze Division of the Power League and finished just out of the hunt for the Prime Time event.  Other successes were had by our 16 Heat team (Edmonds) as well as our 15 Thunder teams as they qualified for Division 1 playoffs at Regionals.

REGIONAL TEAMS --  EASTSIDE, EDMONDS, and KENT

This is the largest part of our club.  Opportunities exist here for players of all levels that are developing and/or do not desire the National Team atmosphere or expense.  Please check our Team List for specific information on which teams we will offer in our Regional Team Program.  Our Regional teams still compete against top teams in the region and play other teams of like skill-level, however they do not have the added expense and time commitment of inter-regional travel .  Regional teams also have a policy assuring equitable playing time for team members at tournaments, etc.  All REGIONAL teams travel to at least one out of region tournament, practice and play tournaments into June (with the exception of the U12 team, whose season ends with the Regional Championship tournament) and are given the opportunity to participate in the VOLLEYBALL FESTIVAL in Reno. Fees for our REGIONAL team program includes play in 12 tournament days INCLUDING, one travel tournament (typically Yakima Jamboree or Spokane Qualifier).  Regional teams also have the option of competing (at an additional expense) in other events, such as Emerald City Classic and Volleyball Festival.  Cost for our Regional teams is approximately $1100 in dues, plus travel expenses.

Some of our Regional teams had successes in 2007 as well.  Our 17 Tempest, comprised of local varsity athletes that did not want to travel, team finished well in the Power League; our 16 Blizzard and 14 Eclipse teams qualified for Division 1 playoffs at Regionals; our 12 Frost team moved up from the bottom of the League to the Silver Division by league's end.
