2008-2009 Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club Tryout Information

Tryout Registration Form Hard Copy (WORD)

Online Tryout Registration Form (Secure, accepts VISA/MC Payments)

We will leave the online registration up all the time, however, we will not be able to process registrations after noon the day of tryouts.  We will only consider a registration "pre-registered" if we have received it in time to process.

Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club is excited to announce its tryouts for the 2009 USAV Junior Season.  Northwest Juniors offers junior volleyball opportunities on the Eastside, in Edmonds, and in Kent.  We had 13 Eastside, 7 Edmonds, and 3 Kent teams in 2008, and plan on up to 30 total teams in 2009.  We had a great year last year and expect to have another great group of athletes, coaches, and parents in 2009.   Come and be a part of the excitement at Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club!  We will be holding tryouts in November and December for all of our teams.  When attending tryouts, please show up at least 30 minutes early for registration.  Pre-registration is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.  Tryouts will be held for teams in the following age groups: U18, U17, U16, U15, U14, U13, and U12.  The age group a player plays is determined by how old they will be September 1, 2009.  Players can play UP in age group, but not down.  Check out our website for more information on our club, staff, costs, and 2008 schedules.

Please check www.nwjuniors.com for more details.

For all tryouts, there will be a MANDATORY PARENTS MEETING with the club administrators during the first hour.  Parents, please plan on attending this very important meeting

Disclaimer: The policy in regards to signing up for club in 2008-2009 is very confusing and may cause undue stress on the team selection process.  As our club director is no longer directly affiliated with the Puget Sound Region board of directors, he had no control or input on this decision, nor would he have supported this as a method for registering athletes during this stressful time.  We, as a club, will do our best to properly interpret the decision of the PSR Board and will try to answer any questions regarding the signing process during our parent meeting at the beginning of each tryout.  As of this date (11/7/08) the region has yet to make a letter of intent available to clubs for inspection.

The Region has dropped the Letter of Commitment due to the expanded time for tryouts.  Instead,  a letter of intent will be given to all players offered a position with Northwest Juniors upon completion of each tryout. This means the 72 hour waiting period no longer exists for players returning to their old clubs.

All players that are offered a position with Northwest Juniors that played for NW Juniors last season may sign on the date of their tryout.  All players offered a position with Northwest Juniors that did not play for NW Juniors last year, will be able to give a verbal commitment the day of the tryout, but may not sign the letter of intent until:

2008-2009  TRYOUT INFO, COSTS, & FORMS

2008-2009  2009 Age Definitions: For your reference so that you know what age group your athlete can tryout for.  Athletes can play up in age group, but not down.

We highly encourage pre-registration for tryouts.  There will be three options for tryout registration.  Pre-registration greatly speeds up the check-in process and is highly recommended.

  1. Online Registration: This is the fastest and easiest way to register.  Asks all the same questions as the mail-in registration form, and allows you to pay for the registration with a credit card.  After you fill out and submit the form, you will go to a confirmation page.  Please print out the page and bring it with you to registration.  No online form is perfect, so if you do not get an e-mail confirmation within three days, please follow up with an e-mail or phone call to ensure that we received your form.

  2. Mail-in Registration : Pre-registration by filling out a form and mailing in registration with a check for the $20 non-refundable try-out fee for all participants.  It is a one-time tryout fee and covers an athlete for any and all Northwest Juniors tryouts they attend.  If you are pre-registering, please include this with your registration form and SIGNED medical and liability release form.  Players will not be able to try-out without the signed release form.

  3. Walk-up registration: Bring all registration materials with you to the tryouts.  Cost for walk-up registration is $25 (cash or check only).  PLEASE ARRIVE 45 MINUTES BEFORE TRYOUTS FOR WALK-UP REGISTRATION.  WE TYPICALLY GET A LOT OF WALK-UPS.

Regardless of registration method, no athlete will be allowed to tryout without the signed Waiver and Release form.

WHY NORTHWEST JUNIORS VOLLEYBALL CLUB?

(Our longevity speaks for itself)

Northwest JR's Volleyball Club is the oldest established Volleyball Club in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho) and one of the few with full-time club staff. Established in 1972, NW Juniors offers programs for ELITE and BEGINNING players. Managed by Northwest Volleyball, Northwest Juniors is a leader in the Volleyball community -- featuring management by the former Puget Sound Region Junior Program Director (6 years), Tony Miranda.  One of our missions is to create and provide volleyball playing opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels.  Additionally, we attempt to provide opportunities in geographic areas that are in need of those programs.  We have been an Eastside club for more than 10 years, in 2005 we added teams in Edmonds, and in the 2008 season we added affiliate teams in Kent in association with one of our club coaches at Kent-Meridian High School.   2008 saw growth for our club as we provided playing opportunities for over 250 Jr. volleyball players ranging in age from 10 to 18 years old. Training camps and club meetings usually begin in December.   Teams compete in tournaments from January through June.  Our teams are separated into two categories: National Teams & Regional Teams.  For the 2008-2009 season, our club will be composed of 6 National teams (5 on the Eastside and 1 in Edmonds), and up to 27 Regional Teams (up to 11 on the Eastside, 8-9 in Edmonds, and 5-7 in Kent).  We also employ Gold Medal Squared volleyball systems on all of our teams.

The combination of our programs, coaching staff, administration,  systems taught, and club affiliations/sponsorships make NORTHWEST JUNIORS the premier club in the Northwest for players of all ability levels.

Team Specifics

NATIONAL TEAMS -- EASTSIDE & EDMONDS

The most talented athletes at each age group will be a part of our National Team program.  In our National Team Program, we will have one U18, one U17, two U16, one U15, and one U14 team.  Players will compete against the top teams in the region and nationally – and will have three practices per week during most of the season.  Players understand that potential travel to national tournaments is a probable commitment and will require additional travel costs.  As players in our NATIONAL TEAM program, players understand that they are committing to the probability of playing in several major national contests and continuing on through the end of JUNE at the JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, VOLLEYBALL FESTIVAL or another suitable post-season Championship event.  Most players at this level have college playing aspirations, and/or play Varsity-level high school volleyball (U15-U18).  Cost is higher than regional teams, though competitive with other elite clubs in the Northwest.  There are other responsibilities and policies specific to the National Team Program; these are outlined in the Player/Parent Handbook distributed prior to the Club-wide pre-season meeting.

Fees for our NATIONAL team program include uniforms (2 jerseys, spandex, sweatsuit, 2 practice tees, shoes, socks, kneepads - all from adidas), practices, coaching, USAV fees, play in at least 12 tournament days PLUS, the PNQ (Spokane Qualifier) and the Emerald City Classic.  Costs for an out of state qualifier, and a post-season tournaments are optional, will be selected by the team during early season travel meetings, and will be billed on an event by event basis.  Cost to participate in our National Team Program is $2300.

In 2008, our National teams had great success.  Our 15 Thunder team (above), won the Region's Prime Time Tournament and qualified for the JNC National Championship Tournament in Dallas.  They also won the Regional Championship tournament and won the Silver Division at the Lone Star Classic.  All of our other National Teams finished near the top of the Region Rankings and played in Division 1 of the Regional Championships.  An unprecedented seven athletes -- all from our National Team Program -- qualified for the Puget Sound Region's High Performance Program; and two athletes were selected at Qualifiers to participate in the National High Performance Program.  Additionally, our 18 Storm team (our only U18 team in 2008) sent 4 out of 5 seniors to colleges to play volleyball.  It was truly a great year for Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club.

REGIONAL TEAMS --  EASTSIDE, EDMONDS, and KENT

This is the largest part of our club.  Opportunities exist here for players of all levels that are developing and/or do not desire the National Team atmosphere or expense.  We offer Regional teams on the Eastside, Edmonds, and in Kent.  Our Regional teams still compete against top teams in the region and play other teams of like skill-level, however they do not have the added expense and time commitment of inter-regional travel.  Regional teams also have a policy assuring equitable playing time for team members at tournaments, etc.  All REGIONAL teams travel to at least one out of region tournament, practice and play tournaments through Memorial Day Weekend, and are given the opportunity to participate in extra travel tournaments, including the VOLLEYBALL FESTIVAL.

Fees for our REGIONAL team program include uniforms (2 jerseys, spandex, sweatsuit, 2 practice tees, shoes, socks, kneepads - all from adidas), practices, coaching, USAV fees, play in approximately 12 tournament days INCLUDING one travel tournament ( usually Yakima or Spokane).  Regional teams also have the option of competing (at an additional expense) in other events such as National Qualifiers and Volleyball Festival.  Cost for our Regional Team Program is approximately $1800 for teams that travel to Spokane, $1700 for teams that travel to Yakima, and $1300 for U12’s, who have a shorter season and do not travel as part of their package..
