INTRODUCTION
The
Northwest Juniors VBC fields Elite (TRAVEL) teams
which compete in USA Volleyball tournaments in the 14-Under through
18-Under age divisions. The Elite Teams play for NWJRS
Elite Volleyball Club and play a Nationally Competitive
Schedule and travel to different parts of the country seeking the
best competition available. Those players selected for the
Elite Program will compete in regular season tournaments from
January through May, and a post-season tournament in June/July.
Tournaments during the regular season are selected which will give
the teams an opportunity to play regionally and nationally
competitive teams and will give them a chance to qualify for the
Junior National Championship Tournament.
The
Travel practice season extends from December through June. Travel
Teams travel to and compete in at least one to two tournaments each
month, at least 11tournaments over the course of the season
depending on the age division. We will also send one U18 "All-star"
and one U17 "All-star" team to the SCVA Las Vegas Invitational Tournament over
President's Day Weekend. We will conduct a tryout for all U18
and U17 players in the club and send one team in each age group.
Elite
teams also participate in the Pacific Northwest Qualifier in
Spokane, the Willamette Classic in May and one additional National
Qualifier during their regular season (this tournament is optional
for our U14's). Each team is given several opportunities to qualify for the National Championship
tournament.
Travel Teams who qualify
will also participate at the Junior Nationals during late June or
early July, this is mandatory for Travel Team
participation. The Junior Nationals is a
national elite tournament which requires teams to qualify at a
Qualifier tournament or through their Region to receive a berth. Its
venue changes from year to year. Teams that do not qualify for
Junior Nationals will
participate in a different post-season event. Among the events
selected as a post-season tournament are the
VOLLEYBALL FESTIVAL in
Phoenix, Arizona, the
Summer
Soiree in Los Angeles, and the AAU National Championships
in Orlando, Florida -- this is mandatory for Travel Team
Participation.
