2011 SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION:
EASTSIDE AREA CAMPS
CAMP NP-1
This camp is for players entering 5th-9th grades in the Fall
of 2011. Please note this is a 3-day camp (22 hours of
instruction).
All players will be grouped by age and skill. There
are two gyms at Newport HS, which will allow us to keep
instruction specific to the grade of the campers.
This
full-day camp spends a great deal of time on individual
skill development. We will take each of the basic skills in volleyball
and teach the athletes how we play the game. The ultimate goal is for each athlete to
dramatically improve her level of play and their
appreciation for the sport of volleyball. Areas that are heavily emphasized are
ball control, movement, and attack and blocking footwork. There will also be time spent on basic concepts of team defense, serve-receive offense, and
transition defense/offense. Included also are brief
forums on various subjects including club volleyball,
goal-setting, and nutrition. All campers are given a
camp notebook with skill information and resources for
future benefit. This is a great camp for those new to
volleyball AND those looking to improve in their basic
skills. By grouping campers by their skill level and
running skill-appropriate drills, even the advanced players
can reap the benefits of this camp.

CAMP BC-1
This camp is for High School players entering 9th-12th grades in the
Fall of 2011.
All players will be grouped by age and skill.
This
is our most popular camp and is for High School-aged
Athletes.
Sign up as an individual or
bring your entire varsity or JV team. This camp is popular because it is the weeks before the
beginning of the High School Season and gives
serious volleyball players a head start on their high school
seasons. Also, since the camp only has high school players,
the overall level of play should be greatly increased. This
camp is similar to the individual skill camps, only it is designed for the intermediate to advanced volleyball
player. In addition to the basic skill-building
featured in our individual camps this camp will go a step further and
emphasize advanced attacking, blocking, serving ,and
defense; as well as advanced team offensive systems and
defensive systems. This camp spends over 50% of the
time on team-related skill improvement -- exactly what the
varsity athlete needs to get a jump on their season. This camp will also feature many
position-specific TUTORING SESSIONS. With
the higher skill-level of campers, more team and game play
will be emphasized in this camp. Campers will
spend morning sessions on individual skill
development and afternoon sessions will emphasize game-play
and team strategies. An additional feature of this camp will be
talks on
leadership, college recruiting, club volleyball, and will conclude with a camp-wide tournament.

Fall of 2011. It is limited to 30 total players in
specific positions. If you are interested in this
camp, please complete a registration and put a deposit down

This will be a continuation of
our most popular camp for High School-aged
Athletes.
We will limit registration
to 30 total athletes on the two courts at Paine Field (6 S,
6 DS, 8 MB, and 10 OH/OP). This camp is the
week before High School Season begins and will give
select/serious athletes some advanced training before the
start of their high school
seasons. Also, since the camp only has select elite high school players,
the overall level of play should be greatly increased. This
camp is similar to the individual skill camps, only it is designed for the advanced volleyball
player. The camp will concentrate on individual
skill-building through tutoring, leadership skills, and give
campers an opportunity to work with the NW Juniors Elite
VBC coaching staff. There will be a lot of
scrimmage-style drills to get the athletes sharp before the
start of the season. This camp spends over 50% of the
time on team-related skill improvement -- exactly what the
varsity athlete needs to get a jump on their season. Campers will
spend morning sessions on individual skill
development and afternoon sessions will emphasize game-play

CAMP
DETAILS
How
is it Organized?
On the
first day of the camp all players will participate in
brief testing and skill-work. Using the results, campers
will be placed in an appropriate skill group. This skill
group will progress through all volleyball skills and team
skills together. We strive to keep a 8-10 to 1 player to
coach ratio for all of our camps. Please note that these are not OVERNIGHT CAMPS. Campers
coming from out of town do have the option of staying in one
of our sponsor
hotels.
What's the Difference?
The best way
we can describe the difference between the three camp
formats is this way:
-
Our 5-9th grade camps are Basic Skills Camps: They
are about 65% basic skills instruction and drills; 35%
game-like instruction. They are good for players
of all skill levels and our most popular camps.
-
Our 7-10th grade camps are
Basic Skills-Intermediate
Skills
Camps: They are about 55% basic skills instruction and
drills; 45% game-like and are good for players that have
a mastery of the basic skills and a good understanding
of team concepts. There is an overlap between the
two camps because players in the 7-9th grades vary in
experience.
-
Our 9-12th grade camps are Advanced/Elite
Camps: They are about 40% basic skills instruction and
drills; 60% game-like
All camps offer a great
curriculum, but differ in the amount of time spent on basic
skill instruction and versus game instruction and game play.
Please be realistic in the assessment of your athlete's
skill level so that they can benefit the most from whichever
camp you enroll them in.
