W/L Record Coaches Notes
2011-12 Season Kickoff Meeting

W!

A successful night of the team and parents getting to know each other and coaches.  Kristine and I are extremely excited for this season, and think that we have great potential of achieving our season goals of making it to Nationals!  Go 15EG!

We're still looking for a focal, so if someone has decided the job is something they would like, please let me know.  Our tournament schedule is set as well, and all of the travel tourneys (Yakima, PNQ, Far Westerns & our end of the year trip) are in need of chaperones.  Email me if you're interested.

Finally, Friday ends now at 9 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m., FYI.  See you then!

Power League 1A

3 - 2

Power League 1A Cheat Sheet for the team's convenience.  Thanks Coach Kristine, for making it.

Results:

The 15EG team played well at our first power league, ultimately holding seed and remaining in 18th place out of 50 teams.

We won our first game against Evergreen Jrs., 21-4, 21-7 with a solid serve run by Keely Markey.  We then played Southend Jrs. And took the match in 3 games, 11-21, 21-9,  15-12 showing a great fight as a team with aggressive and impressive hustle by Marit Thorkildsen, Sarah Crane & Krista Merca.  We then went on to play our second year nemesis, Space Needle, and fell to them in 2 games, 10-21, 9-21.  “The thing that really hurt us in this game was our serving, we could not get any in-a-rows, literally not a single run - and frequently, the serve itself was out,” said Coach Kim Culliton.  This put the 15EG team second in the pool and secured them in division 1.

The team then moved to the Competitive Edge and was seeded third in our pool.  First we played the ranked #1 KJVBC and fell to them in 2 games, 12-25, 16-25.  Serving once again proved to be an issue.  We went on to fall to Snohomish Valley Fusion in a game that both coaches agree, we can beat that team and will in the future.  Our final game of the LONG day was a success, defeating Club Wahine 25-20, 18-25, 15-12.

Says Culliton, “I am excited that this team won the games we went to 3, it shows a lot of mental toughness and leadership in some key positions.  With some work on our serving, defense and making some connections, I think we will have a better  Power League in the future.”

Congrats to Marit for being voted MVP of the tournament.  Great effort to the entire team, all 13 of you made coaches proud.  We are excited for the MLK Tournament.

MLK Tourney

January 14-15

3 - 3

The 15EG team had a so-so first day of the tournament with a 1-2 record.  We beat Bothell pretty convincingly, and fell to Space Needle and ITVC.  Again, the losses seemed frustrating because we did not play to our potential and we were a bit tired of saying, "we could have won."

Day two started great.  As the #4 seed in our pool, we ended up taking 2nd defeating Cascade, losing (again) to ITVC and the beating Lake VBC.  It was then that the snow had accumulated to unsafe driving conditions for all tournament participants, and after a lot of heartbreaking deliberation, the tourney was cancelled.  No one knows what the EG was going to pull out of their hat for the rest of the day.  I think eyes were opened a bit and hopefully the team will pay to their potential in the future.

Congrats to Dani for being selected as the MLK MVP of the Tournament and to all the hard work over the weekend.  Thanks to the parents who helped us stick it out all weekend - especially on Sunday when it was SO cold in the gym.

Power League #2 Cheat Sheet

What a day.  The 15EG team went undefeated in Power League 2, meaning we get to move up to Flight 2 in Power League.  There were some moments of greatness, but some of the great growth was the fight we had - not willing to lose winning 32-30 against Cascade and being down to Sudden Impact in the first game/coming back and winning it.  Even being SO ahead in the second game against Sudden Impact (what was it, 8-0 at one point?) really showed that this team is really coming around!  We tasted sweet victory, and I feel like we will only continue to grow.

Great moments...Great defensive efforts by Marit & Dani.  Awesome stuff block by Marit in game 2 vs. Sudden Impact.  Great directional blocks (2 of them) by Claire vs. Sudden Impact.  Amazing run in serving by Sarah in game 2 vs. SIVBC.  Impressive kills by Kessie  vs. Puyallup.  Congrats to Sarah being voted MVP of the Tourney.  Great job 15EG!
