15 Tempest 2008 Coaches Corner

Tournament Win/Loss Record Coaches Notes
NW Juniors President's Day Tournament,  February 16-18, 2008

15 Tempest played against some tough teams on Saturday, got overwhelmed and a little intimidated - and as a result we weren't able to focus or play well. Sunday was a different story entirely - we forgot about the day before and had good energy and a positive attitude - and a result we played well and tough throughout the day. We were aggressive and smart - and although the scoresheet only said that we won one match, we were competitive in every game. I felt that Tiffanny really stood out by moving well and being aggressive on defense. And Shirley continues to set well and make good decisions.

In the playoffs on Monday, we unfortunately got a tough 1st round, playing against a strong ITVC team. We got blown out in the first game and it looked as if the same was going to happen in the second, when Molly, our injured Libero suggested that we change things up and have Tia go in and set. Wow, our energy surged and we fought back hard. We certainly surprised ITVC and almost forced a game 3 before they regrouped and pulled out the win.

We certainly learned some things about ourselves this weekend and hopefully we can incorporate lessons learned into the next tournament

Power League

April 6, 2008

15 Tempest played some good volleyball this weekend. Only having 7 girls - 3 on vacation and our libero out for the season, all players got a lot of play time.

We started the day playing strong, despite our normal record playing early in the morning and won the first game easily. The second game we fought hard but barely lost, although we had our chances. The third game was also close but I feel that we were pretty much in control and were able to finish.

The second match wasn't quite as close - this was a back to back match and we lost a little bit of fire. It was against a pretty good Space Needle team, who had 3 pretty strong players. We had our opportunities but missed too many serves.

Our third match of the day was a nail bitter, with some good long rallies. We pulled it out in 3 - this was the def the best match of the day.

We had a small break before play offs but I think that we were really getting tired at this point and lost in two.

Overall, we again played better than we have before and with only 7 girls. Everyone gave it their all and I think that it was a pretty good day.
