After two tough weeks of focused practices, 15 Thunder was ready to go for PrimeTime. Everyone stepped up their game, and pushed hard to eventually achieve an undefeated sweep of every team they encountered. I wanted to highlight some of the leaders of that charge, and some of my personal favorites. Over the last month or so, we have spent considerable amounts of time talking about the importance of establishing a serving game, and being tough, yet consistent on serve. The leaders behind the line were Allie Hadley with 30 attempts, 6 ace/winners, and only 1 error, and Brooke Molloy with 41 attempts, 11 ace/winners and only 2 errors. Defensive efforts were strong with the twins, Brooke and Kaitlyn picking up 20 and 18 digs throughout the day respectively. Our blocking was sound with Emily and Kaitlyn posting 7 blocks, and Sarah right behind them with 6. Offense was sound on Sunday. Ariel proved to be calm and collected as she gave us kills on almost a third of her setting attempts. The big guns were Sarah, hitting at 44% and Rachel hitting at 40%. None of these would be possible had it not been for a combined team effort on serve-receive. The team average was 2.2 with Kaitlyn posting a 2.41 for the day. There were so many highlights throughout the day. I will always remember thinking “this could be it” after winning the first game of the finals. Once we reached the 20 point mark we saw a couple monster hits by Sarah Hanna (one well in front of the 10 ft. line), a spectacular diving save by Kaitlyn off the back court, and an overall sense of calm as they rolled on to win the final game 25-15. I remember seeing the beaming faces of the front line during the last couple points. There was no way they were losing that match. They did it. They made it to nationals. Now we start the process of preparing for nationals. We also want to represent our club, and our region well as we enter the Nationals tournament. Great job Thunder. |
