Power League Seeding Day |
4-2 |
Quality wins over Spokane Splash 18 DK,
PSVBA 18 Regional, and Sudden Impact 18's highlighted this day.
Unfortunate losses to WVBA 17 Mizuno and Lake Tapps 18 Orange -- our two
chances to move up -- kept us at the #20 seed overall. |

MLK Weekend Tournament |
8-1 |
Lots of opportunities to work on some
things we have been emphasizing in practice. That's coach-speak
for there were not a ton of strong teams in the tournament. Good
wins over Space Needle 18, Rain City 18, North Central Washington 18.
Only loss was against Ducks 18 Elite from Canada. A good final
match, but we ran out of steam and had a tough time terminating.
this tournament featured the debut of Haleigh Harrison on the outside.
Kiah Jones had a great weekend and was named tournament MVP. |
|
Power League #1 |
3-2 |
Rough day at Washington HS. We
probably should have gone undefeated and moved up to Flight 1. Losing to
a Splash DK team that we beat in week 1 set us back and we never
recovered. This day dropped us in the rankings and we will have to
claw our way back up. |

Presidents Weekend Tournament |
9-0 |
A solid couple weeks of practice after
the Power League disappointment led to some inspired volleyball this
weekend. In a good inter-regional test, the team went 9-0 to
captured the President's Weekend Championship. Day 1 brought
victories over Trailsend 18 and Nafanua 18 from Oregon, and Eclipse from
Spokane. On Sunday, it was North Pacific and Suncats from Oregon and
South Sound 18's from Puget Sound Region. After sweeping all
matches 2-0, we finally got pushed to 3 on our first match of the day
Monday against Excel NW 18 Silver -- not the toughest team we played all
weekend, but a lapse in focus in set #2 led to confidence by the Excel
team and a battle in set #3. It was close but we managed to pull out a
victory. Second match of the day was against Space Needle 18's a
great defensive team that does a great job of extending rallies and
frustrating their opponents. What a final! We were matched
up against the #1 seed, Central Washington Elite -- the team that
represented the Evergreen Region at Nationals last season, and ranked in
the top 8 of our region's Power League. Set one was close, but we
pulled away late; set 2 we struggled and found ourselves down 18-23 and
looking at a 3-set match for the championship. But, behind the
serving of Katrina Lane and some stellar defense, the team made a
dramatic comeback with each rally more and more intense -- dig after dig
terminated by our attackers -- to win set 25-23. A lot of players
had good weekends: both middles blocked and attacked well, setters did a
great job of distributing the ball, our defense was solid, and Haleigh
Harrison emerged as an outside hitter, earning team MVP honors for the
weekend. |
|
Power League #3 |
5-0 |
We continue our winning streak at Jackson
High School with some nice wins over Team Yakima 17 (who has been in
Flight 1 all season), Northshore 18's, and a solid win over ITVC 17's in
the final. Our efforts earn us a long awaited trip to Flight 1.
Our team MVP for the day was Darian Foley, who really stepped up her
blocking and had some amazing kills. |
|
Yakima Jamboree |
7-1 |
Another good weekend for the team, as we
extended our winning streak to 21 matches. Poor seeding and an unusual
format in the tournament put us in a position where we had to win all of
our pool play matches in order to make it into the Division 1 playoffs.
We did just that, but it was not easy as we had to play Apex 18's PAC V
17's, Saskatoon Pure Chaos and K-OSS on Saturday -- sweeping all matches
2-0. Sunday morning brought another tough pool and an unfortunate
situation: Shockwave 17 and Central Washington Elite were all ranked
pretty high in the tournament, but only one team would be able to make
it into the Division 1. We took care of business!!! We
handled Shockwave pretty easily but they had some stellar defense that
frustrated our hitters; then Central Washington Elite. Another
battle, as sets 1 and 2 were close, with us winning 26-24, 25-23 and
behind late in both sets. We really dug deep and found a way to
pull out a victory against a great team and earn a spot in the Division
1 playoffs. First playoff match was against a very tough Kamali'i team
-- they really challenged us to pass well, swing well and play great
defense. We did manage to beat them 2-0, but then had to
immediately play Sideout/NBC 17's who were an extremely talented team.
We went 3 sets with Sideout, but were not able to pull out a victory --
they were fast, played great defense and had some great hitters.
We challenged them and had our moments, but in the end, ran out of gas
and lost the 3rd set -- and ended our streak at 21 consecutive matches.
So we will start a new one at PNQ in Spokane! |

3-4 match
5-4 overall
video vs. Encore
submitted by Kristen Lane |
Despite the record, we had another good
weekend. More than anything, we learned a little about ourselves
and know we have the ability to fight when needed. The highlight
of the weekend was our play during the 3-way playoff for a spot in the
Gold Bracket. Even though we went 1-2 in pool play and put ourselves in
the position to have to win two playoff sets, we prevailed. First
with a win over Spokane Splash RB - a team we lost to in pool
play; then with a second win over Encore Damian from Northern
California. A tough loss to Delta Valley in the first round of
the Gold Division playoffs means we have more work to do to be a
consistent team and earn a bid to Nationals.
