Venue:

Magnuson Park  Address: 7400 Sandpoint Way NE  |  Seattle, WA 98115

The event is being held at Warren G. Magnusson Park in Seattle.  This is a massive park on the shores of Lake Washington, on the former Sand Point Naval Station -- a few pointers in finding the field.  The tournament is being held on the “Meadow” which is a wide open field at the east end of the park .  Volleyball will occupy the half of the field nearest the restrooms (on the Park map below, it is field's 1 & 2).  When you come into the main drive and pass the baseball and soccer fields you will begin to see signs.  Best place to park is the “North Sand Point Parking Lot”, next to the kids play area.  From there it is still a little bit of a hike down the trail to the sports Meadow (so plan accordingly).  For a limited period of time early in the morning -- 8:00 - 9:00 AM -- there will be access to the field from the service road so that you can drop off your canopies, BBQ's, etc.  Access here is from just past the beach turn-off and close to the old Tennis Courts.

Here is a link to a PARK MAP for your reference.

DETAILS

Check-in:

Like our beach tournaments, check in is from 8:15 to 8:45.  We will have our white tents set-up for tournament headquarters -- probably in the middle of the field where we can share sponsorship tents and other items with the Ultimate Frisbee event .  This event does not require USAV membership, however, if you are not a USAV member, we ask that you sign and bring this waiver form.  You will also have a check in form to sign when you arrive, this tells us that you are here and allows us to place you in a pol.  If you do not sign and check in by 8:45 you may lose your spot in the tournament. If you have friends that are thinking about playing and signing up please remind them to be there during that 8:15 to 8:45 window.

Playing in the Grass:

You’ll find that it is similar to indoors in that it is on hard ground.  In case the ground is wet (especially in the early morning), most grass players either play barefoot or in running shoes or turf shoes (because they have better grip in the grass than volleyball shoes).  You can also play in your volleyball shoes, but be warned if you do, they will lose their indoor grip and you probably will not be able to use them indoors again.  The nice thing about playing on the grass is that you will be able to jump higher and hit better than in the sand.  Diving will leave its mark, however :)

Tournament Details:

We want to be able to maximize your play, so we will have pool play followed by a true double elimination tournament.  In the bigger divisions, play will probably go until at least 5:00 PM.  Medals will be awarded to the top four teams in each division.  Additional prizes will also be awarded courtesy of our beach series sponsors.

Extras:

We will have two white tents at Headquarters.  One is for check-in and will serve as the tournament headquarters, the other is the “State Games” tent where you can get your tee-shirt after check in and get sponsor product throughout the day.  There will be Clif Kid ZBars and beverages available throughout the day for participants.

IMG_0064 by usabeachvolleyball.

If this is your first tournament of the summer, we give out our free summer event tee-shirt during pool

Usually Round-robin pool play with pools of 3, 4, or 5 teams

After pool is over, you turn your pool sheet into the tournament headquarters

We ask that you verify the pool sheet before your turn it in.  Once the sheet is turned in it is official.

Your meal/breaks are built into your pool play time (just like indoors)

Once all the pools in your age group/division are completed, it takes about 15-20 minutes to seed for playoffs.  The sooner your pool gets finished, the more of a break you get :)

Lunch?  Usually during your pool play breaks

Approx. 1:00 PM -- Double-Elimination Playoffs Begin

IMG_0063 by usabeachvolleyball.

Playoffs Continue throughout the afternoon

First and second round playing and officiating assignments are usually given out during the pre-playoff meeting

After that matches are assigned "TBA" so you have to pay attention for your team name

Finals for larger divisions are around 6:00 PM

For the raffle, no need to collect tickets before you leave.  We enter you in the drawing and the higher you place, and the more teams in your division -- the more tickets you get in the drawing.

PRIZES? Of course!  We usually give out prizes to at least 1st and 2nd place finishers.  State Games Medals for First, Second, & Third Place.  We award merchandise and/or gift certificates from our series sponsors.  Because of amateur rules, we cannot award prizes larger in value than your entry fee.
